4-year PreDoc contract associated to the project: Phenotypic plasticity versus phenotypic determinism: colour variations in the mayfly Cloeon dipterum (COLOREON) PID2023-151401NB-I00

This project aims to explore how changes in colouration contribute to animal adaptations to two markedly different contexts: plastic adaptations to changing environments and sexual dimorphism. Using a multidisciplinary approach, including state-of-the-art functional genomics, transcriptomics, advanced imaging, genome editing methods, spectrophotometry, and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), the candidate will study the gene regulatory networks (GRNs) involved in these adaptive events led by completely different genomic inputs.

Working environment and life in Barcelona
The predoctoral researcher will join the Almudi lab (check list of publications to see our interests), recently established at the Department of Genetics, Microbiology and Statistics and the Institute de la Recerca de la Biodiversitat (IRBio) at the University of Barcelona. This department offers a privileged environment to researchers, including the so-called “Barcelona Evo-Devo School”, with an excellent international community in one of the best universities in Spain. The team is committed to maintaining a respectful, inclusive, and friendly working environment, as well as promoting your career development. Barcelona is a cosmopolitan and vibrant city and a major cultural, economic, and financial centre in southwestern Europe, as well as the main biotech hub in Catalonia and Spain.

Besides our project-funded open positions we are always looking to incorporate new enthusiastic members to the team, so if you are interested in our research, contact us and we can discuss funding opportunities and national and international fellowship schemes.
